  • Paralympian Robbie Barrett flies on Endolite Running Blade

A spectacular part of the Paralympic Opening Ceremony was the sight of 6 Paralympian Champions flying to the strains of Handel’s Eternal Light. Medal winner Robbie Barrett, who took Bronze in the 100m and 200m finals in the Seoul Paralympics, was part of the spectacular aerial display in the Paralympic Opening Ceremony 2012. To the ethereal strains of Handel’s Eternal Light, 6 former medal winners: including Barratt and Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, flew across the sky suspended high above the cheering crowds and approached the golden globe representing the Universe.

Robbie sprinted through the night on a prototype Endolite Running Blade which was sporting a gold Union Jack on a flaming background for the event. The balletic display using successful athletes from previous games gave us the sense that the legacy for future generations is one of hope, enthusiasm and potential. Barrett, having captained a Sitting Volley Ball team in recent years, is now undertaking a role in training the next generation of Paralympic sprinters. He is currently trialling the Endolite Running Blade in order to find solutions to achieving top level sprint speeds and yet reducing the damage to the other joints, which are under huge loading from the impact of competitive sport.

We wish all of the athletes in this year’s Paralympics an excellent games and look forward to being inspired watching their achievements in the coming days!
