Blatchford is proud to announce our sponsorship of the Walking With The Wounded, South Pole Challenge 2013 in which the UK Team will be competing against teams from the USA and Commonwealth countries to race across 335km of Antarctic snow and ice to reach the South Pole by December 15th.
Guy Disney, UK Team member, attended The Blatchford Headquarters and Technology Centre to have a look at how the Endolite Elite Blade foot he will be wearing in the race was developed and tested to ensure it will be able to endure sub-zero conditions and maintain optimal performance in this gruelling challenge.
Ben Blease, Blatchford Marketing Manager, who presented Guy with the sponsorship cheque, commented “We have built this foot out of materials used in aircraft wings so we know the capabilities for use in extreme cold but we have also put it through a dynamic test regime, which included foot function tests with 5 million cycles, to give us the confidence that the Blade will support Guy with excellent energy response and endurance in these harsh conditions.”

Prince Harry, Patron of the charity, “I am delighted to be Patron of the Allied South Pole Challenge, their latest ambitious project. Not only will this involve wounded personnel from the United Kingdom, but there will be a team from the United States and a team from the Commonwealth. This means the awareness created will be global, and will not only show the tenacity of these young men and women, but also the strong links between our Allies, off the battlefield as well as on.”
In the build up to their transfer to Antarctica, the teams have spent 24 hours in a cold chamber to acclimatise for some of the toughest conditions on Earth. Training continues in Norway before heading to Novolazarevskaya Airbase in Antarctica, for final preparations before the start of the race.
